Holy Trinity Solemnity

sunrise, rainbow, good morning

Everyone I’ve ever heard speak about the Holy Trinity says it is a mystery beyond explanation. It is too great to be able to be put into words and any attempt woefully falls short, but when the priest repeated those sentiments during his homily, I had a picture of a rainbow in my mind.

Like all other images people use to describe the Trinity, this one is inadequate, so bear with me. One weakness in this image is that a rainbow has more than three colors. The similarity, however, is that while there are several distinct colors, the we have difficulty separating the colors. There is no line where one begins and the other ends. Each color blends in with the color next to it.

Likewise, each Person of the Trinity has distinct ways that They allow us to understand Each, but They together are inseparably One, like the rainbow. Also, like a rainbow, the Trinity is/are illusive. Have you ever tried to put a rainbow in a box?

Here’s where the rubber meets the road: do we have a relationship with all Three? Each are important to our spiritual growth and happiness, so we must cultivate relationships with all Three, Individually.

Below are the lyrics to one of the songs I wrote, available here.

ON MY KNEES

On my knees before You, Father
On my knees I humbly bow
Seeking You in awesome wonder
On my knees before You now.
On my knees I recognize
A contrite heart You’ll not despise
Sovereign Lord and Loving Father
Here I am, I’m on my knees

On my knees before You, Jesus
Here to serve and here to give
As You gave Your life, I want to
Humbly show in me You live
I lift my hands in sweet surrender
Yielding to Your perfect will
Jesus, my sweet Lord and Savior
Use me now, I’m on my knees

On my knees, O holy Spirit
Move and make me wholly Thine
Fill me with Your Holy Presence
Take Your will and make it mine
Speak to me the mysteries
Of the earth and heavenlies
Holy Spirit, lead and guide me
Fill me now, I’m on my knees

Father, Jesus, Holy Spirit
I am Yours and You are mine
You are worthy of all glory
Honor, praise are truly Thine
Three in One, the Holy Union
On my knees before You, Father
All are only, ever God
To You, Lord, I bow before Thee
Humbly now, I’m on my knees
